Stills from MEAT ME IN PLAINVILLE

MEAT ME IN PLAINVILLE, Starring CHRISTOPHER WEBB, JESSICA WEBB, and EMILY SKEGGS has finally completed post-production and will unleash itself on the 2012 Festival Season. A select audience saw a sneak preview back at InFEST II in May, but the edges has been smoothed out a bit since then.

And since y'all can't wait to see it, here's some enticing stills to get your blood pumping (out of your ripped jugular vein of course)

THY KILL BE DONE

The festival-winning, globe-trottin' SMASH is BACK!

Two Years Ago, Greth Productions, in association with NBS and Warlords, set out to single handedly revitalize the lost grindhouse genre of nun-sploitation. And indeed they did, inspiring a retro-aesthetic that raises the bar in low-brow entertainment.

It won the BEST EXPLOITATION SHORT at the POLLYGRIND FILM FESTIVAL

2010 Dir. GREG HANSON and CASEY REGAN

New STEELE FILMS website

The fun and sexy guys over at STEELE FILMS have finally revamped their website.

Boy, does it look pretty. If it was a shy girl standing alone near the bar, we would totally pound too many drinks to gain the necessary confidence and then completely embarrass ourselves trying to hit on her.

But seriously, Steele Films is one of the best indie movie companies based around that soul-sucking behemoth of Los Angeles. It's refreshing to filmmakers balancing economic interests with innovative creativity.

Click here to see one of their best short films: http://steelefilms.com/2011/07/ltsm/ and then explore their awesome new site!

BOSTON FRENCH FILM FEST...'til JULY 24

Some of the exhibitions at the MFA might be a little high-brow for us schlock-mongers here at InFEST, but we can't help but appreciate some old-fashioned film d'art. Also, French women are hot.

So get your derriere over to the MFA over the next two weeks and soak up some of the best new films coming out of the cinephile-crazy country of France

I'm looking forward to REBECCA ZLOTWOSKI's coming-of-age biker tragedy with the Beatles-inspired title DEAR PRUDENCE. It looks all sexual and violent. (I'm saying that with hand motions)

Then there's THE TREE, starring CHARLOTTE GAINSBOURG who's continuing her foray into the genre of post-traumatic, nature-themed pictures. But, while ANTI-CHRIST meditated on the horrific physicality of death and nature, this movie looks to be a nausea-inducing heart-warmer, complete with a cute little blond girl who "chooses to be happy" after the death of her father. I'm taking a deep breath before I see this movie, but I'm going to sit through it.

And if you want to take the plunge with me, you can see it at the MFA or starting July 22nd at the KENDALL

To continue the cheese train, see a hefty GERARD DEPARDIEU enjoy conversations with a old lady in MY AFTERNOONS WITH MARGUERITTE. I can't believe this guy was ever a sex symbol...

And then a newcomer named JEAN-LUC GODARD spills out a strange, non-narrative piece FILM SOCIALISME. Let's see if this guy can make a name for himself...

Rev up your ENGINES for the BLACK ROCK FILM FEST at BURNING MAN

There's a fantastic project in the works. The BOSTON UNDERGROUND FILM FEST is sponsoring the ENGINE THEATRE, a revolutionary new projection device. This new device will be used and shown at the 2011 BLACK ROCK FILM FEST this AUGUST.  Black Rock City is, of course, the site of the infamous BURNING MAN, to which this will coincide.

The ENGINE THEATRE is an impressive and innovative projection device. It's a 1000 lb steel sculpture with lights. It has a seventeen-foot screen for projection. It's a work of art in and of itself, so they can't get it for free.

Here's a link to their Kickstarter page to help fund this fantastic project: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/annafeder/help-fund-the-engine-theater-for-the-black-rock-fi

On the page, there's a great pitch video from the cinematic geniuses at WHORE CHURCH

The film was a hit at SUNDANCE and is making its rounds through the art house cinema circuit right now. You can find it on Comcast OnDemand, but why sit at home? alone? in your underpants? Come dressed as Slick and throw cocaine at people.

glovebox Film Festival!

The glovebox art collective/organization is putting their metaphorical money where their mouth is and putting on a film festival next month at the Somerville Theater. Sponsored by the Weekly Dig and, of course, their venue host, the fest will screen shorts and animated films from the Boston and NY-based geographies.

Glovebox is committed to showcasing local art/film/multimedia in non-traditional spaces. We at InFEST think an alliance with glovebox would be a good thing which is why we're promoting them. Like us, they put an emphasis on community-building and grassroots locality also encouraging the thrill of risk-taking and an uncompromise of vision.

Milwaukee Underground Film Festival Winners

MUFF (what a great abbreviation for an undergound film fest!) announced its awards this week, where top prizes get a whopping $100. To be fair, the prize winner at the Boston Undergound Film Festival recieved vibrating bunny statues. We do what we can...

The winners are:

TOKYO-EBISU

Tomonari Nishikawa - 5 min, 16mm, 2010 (Binghamton, NY)

IN BETWEEN

IN BETWEEN from Mike Stoltz on Vimeo.

Mike Stoltz - 4.5 min, 16mm, 2006 (Providence, RI)

ALIKI

Richard Wiebe - 5 min, video, 2010 (Iowa City, IA)

ANIMA MUNDI

Kate Balsley - 3.5 min, video, 2010 (Brown Deer, WI)

Milwaukee is an interesting hub of experimental and underground film, mostly centered around the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, and while it's culture and scene are inevitably compared to the juggernaut of an art/film scene 2 hours to the south in Chicago, it remains distinct and resists formal institutionalization, which can't be said about the scene around Columbia College and the SAIC nowadays. But, really it's all good, in both Illinois and Wisconsin. And it's irresponsible to split hairs on issues of purity, making me sound like a pretentious jack-ass.

Migrating Forms

Perhaps the premiere festival for experimental film in Americ, Migrating Forms, starts this weekend at Anthology Film Archives in Manhattan. Migrating Forms evolved out of the now-defunt New York Underground Film Festival. It should be a great program this year.

Filmmakers features include:

Cynthia Maughan

Jacqueline Goss

Madison Brookshire

and I'm really excited for the movie, Oxhide, a true independent film from China (where it's really hard to make an independent film) in which a family plays fictionalized versions of themselves, shown in two parts.

Liu Jiayin

Thanks!

Thanks so much to evryone who came out last Thursday for the second annual InFEST. It really means a lot of us and the local independnet film scene. We don't need Hollywood stars or multi-million dollar marketing campaigns, we can do it all ourselves.

Keep and eye out for more InFEST Screenings this summer. We're coming to town near you!

Until then, check back here for underground festival information and news...

InFEST InFO

The second incarnation of InFEST will take place May 12, 2011 in the Kevin Bright Screening Room.

The first program starts at 12:30, the second begins at 2:30. Don't be late!

This cinematic extravaganza features SNEAK PEAKS of not one, not two, but three (count 'em THREE) new films from Emerson College's own Greth Productions. They've been soaking up a lot of California Sun this year, but that hasn't abated their taste for MAYHEM!

Good Taste - Dir. Greg Hanson
Runaway - Dir. Doug Saribay
Meat Me in Plainville - Dir. Greg Hanson & Casey Regan

There will be other Emerson films and some wonderfully insane independent films shown to put all these upstart students in their place.

Full program and sexy new poster by the end of the week...

But in the MEANTIME.....Enjoy the stimulating link below
